Maths

Mental Maths:

  • Continue to complete one mental maths activity each day. (Don’t forget about Problem Solving!)

Daily 10:

  • 10 minutes each day. Level 4 activities. Set timers to an appropriate time for you!
  • (Try a mixture of all activities each day – Addition, subtraction, ordering, partitioning, values, rounding, multiplication, division, doubles/halves, fractions)

Novel: “Wild Flower Girl” by Marita Conlon McKenna

  • (You should all have received a copy of this novel on the last day of school)
  • Continue to read one chapter each day.
  • Write a summary of the events taking place.

Each day: Choose 10 words and complete some of the following activities.

  • Look up words in the dictionary to obtain meaning.
  • Write synonyms (words that mean the same)
  • Write antonyms (words that mean the opposite)
  • Write your words in pencil, then and trace all the consonants in red
  • Write all the words in alphabetical order
  • Write each word using 5 different writing tools (pencil, pen, marker, crayon, colouring pencil)
  • Write your words in pencil, then and trace all the vowels in blue

Handwriting:

  • Just Handwriting: Complete one page each day.
  • Writing: Explanation Writing

(Explanations are written to explain how something works or the process involved in actions, events or behaviour. E.g. How does a rainbow occur? Explanation texts are organised by: a definition or statement, and a sequenced explanation.)

Research and write an explanation for one of the following:

  • Why does it rain?
  • How do seeds grow?
  • How does a frog or fish or butterfly grow?

SESE:

  • Small World History: Unit 6 “Traders and Explorers”.
  • Read chapter and complete questions throughout chapter.
  • History Project: Complete a project on one of the following explorers (or an explorer of your own choosing)
  • Ferdinand Magellan

WILF:

  • Name of the explorer and personal background.
  • Purpose of his expedition and his travel route. (Why did he go and how did he get there?)

  • Science Project: Design and Make a boat that can float on water.
  • Atlas Hunt: Continue with pages relating to the counties and provinces of Ireland.

SPHE

  • Journaling: This is a strange and challenging time for all people, including children. Record your daily activities, emotions and thoughts in a journal. This will not be read by the teacher, however I encourage each girl to take ten minutes each day to reflect. This can be written in any language you feel most comfortable with.

  • Draw/paint a picture
  • Help with the cooking and the cleaning.
  • Go for a walk with your parents
  • Take part in daily exercise
